Diwali DIY Project - Roller blinds for my kitchen

Today, I managed to do a DIY project which has been put off for quite some time - installing roller blinds at the kitchen window 😊.

Before this, I dressed up the window with a sheer curtain and a bamboo blind.  Odd combination?? Well, I have always been practical. The sheer curtain was to let in light into the kitchen, while the bamboo blinds was to block the kitchen from being too visible to the neighbours at the back. Nak pasang pun senang...

When the kitchen was renovated recently, awal-awal lagi the sheer curtain and bamboo blinds telah dihumban oleh kontraktor 😜. At the same time, the modern-designed kitchen calls for a modern decor. So I decided to install roller blinds this time around.

Being me 😁, I did some research on the roller blinds - what type to buy, what colour and material to choose, the price and where to buy. Yang tak fikir sangat ialah siapa yang akan pasang... DIY mom lah kan! 😆

I went to Ikano Power Station to 'survey' the blinds - in IKEA and Spotlight.  I really liked the IKEA blinds but they don't come with chains... susahlah nak tolak dan tarik. Of course the chainless blinds are considered safer for small kids to avoid them getting entangled and strangled... but I don't think they will be a hazard to my grown-up children...

Spotlight offers more variety of roller blinds but the price was more expensive than IKEA.  After spending a long time going through each variety, I settled for a day and night roller blind - the sheer day blind to let in natural light, while the solid night blind was to block out the sunlight and heat when needed.

It took me sometime to install it as the contractor also took sometime to finish the kitchen 😑... When tbe kitchen was finally ready, dapat pulak tawaran mengerjakan haji... so, first thing's (haj) first.

After 2 months, today I summoned all my kerajinan dan tenaga to install the roller blind... 😁

This was how the kitchen window looked like before the roller blind was installed 👇 ...

After installation 👇 ...

It took me two hours to install this - going up and down the counter-top, measuring the hole positions precisely, drilling the bracket holes and hammering the wall plugs, screwing and attaching the roller blinds to the brackets, etc 😥... Dulu-dulu semua aktiviti DIY, kita buat sendiri 💪💪.  Hubby memang kurang expert... huhuhu...  Dah tua-tua ni memang tak larat buat sorang. Alhamdulillah ada anak-anak bujang yang dipaksa membantu... Ngeh! Ngeh! Ngeh! 😁

Interestingly, this roller blind can also double-up as a projector screen... bolehlah tengok movie menggunakan  LCD projector 'pencen' sambil makan 👇...

Otherwise, it does its job as a roller blind 😊.  Cool innit??
